Add shims between the nailing-in
flange and the studs as needed to
eliminate gaps. Use #6 large-head
galvanized nails to secure the
nailing-in flange to the studs.
Install furring strips to the studs to
shim out to the edge of the nailing-in flange.
Installing the furr strips in this manner makes
for a flat wall ready for tile. Without the furr
strips, the cement board would "bow" out at the
bottom making for an unsightly tile job.
